Enhance your MBA with an official graduate certificate designed to deepen your expertise and expand your career opportunities. Southern Miss offers four certificate pathways that allow MBA students to apply their 15 hours of specialized electives toward a defined area of study, building focused knowledge in high-impact fields. Some certificates require 12 hours, providing flexibility within your remaining electives, while others require the full 15 hours and fully satisfy the elective requirement.
Economic Development Certificate
12 Hours
The Economic Development Certificate prepares students to support community growth, business attraction, and long-term regional development through data-informed strategy and land use planning.
Requirements
- ED 646 | Economic Attraction and Retention (Fall)
- ED 722 | Economic Development Data Analytics and Theory (Fall)
- ED 736 | Real Estate Land and Land Use Planning (Spring)
- One relevant Economic Development elective
Sport Security Management Certificate
12 Hours
The Sport Security Management Certificate focuses on risk mitigation, venue protection, and emergency preparedness in sport and event environments.
Admission to the Sport Security Management Graduate Certificate is required prior to enrolling in these courses. The application is available through Graduate Admissions.
Requirements
- SM 620 | Introduction to Sport Security Management
- SM 626 | Threat and Risk Assessment of Sport Venues
- SM 628 | Sport Event Emergency Response Planning
- One relevant Sport Management elective
Non-Profit Studies Certificate
15 Hours
The Non-Profit Studies Certificate equips students with the leadership, fundraising, and governance skills necessary to advance mission-driven organizations.

- SOC 505 | Nonprofits and Social Change (Spring)
- NPS 506 | Nonprofit Resource Development and Fundraising (Spring)
- NPS 507 | Nonprofit Board and Volunteer Development (Fall)
- Two MBA core courses will complete the NPS Certificate requirements
Public History Certificate
15 Hours
The Public History Certificate prepares students to interpret, preserve, and present history in museums, cultural institutions, archives, and public-facing organizations.
