4. What are the application requirements?

Your application must be complete by the University鈥檚 posted deadline, found at this link. Required materials include:

  • Completed application form
  • Official academic transcripts
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • TOEFL/IELTS scores (if applicable)
  • Personal Statement addressing Academic background and preparation, Motivation for graduate study, For Ph.D. applicants: Research interests and career goals
  • GRE scores are NOT required for either the M.S. or Ph.D. programs.

Note: CSCE does not accept applications for the summer term.

5. How are applications reviewed?

Minimum eligibility requirements are published in the :

  • Academic preparation and transcripts

  • English proficiency scores (if applicable)
  • Overall strength of the applicant pool

6. What is conditional admission?

Conditional admission may be offered when an applicant demonstrates strong overall potential but needs additional preparation in core computer science areas. Students with conditional admit status are not eligible for graduate assistantships until they receive full admission status.

7. Can I transfer graduate credits?

Yes. Transfer credit limits are as follows:

  • Up to 9 graduate credit hours for master鈥檚 programs.
  • Up to 14 graduate credit hours for the Ph.D. 

Important policies:

Credits applied toward a previously earned degree cannot be transferred.
Non-content courses (e.g., thesis/dissertation research) are not transferable.
Additional documentation may be required, including course descriptions and syllabi.

8. How can I view graduate courses?

Graduate courses scheduled during a semester can be searched through the SOAR 'Class Search' functionality at . No login is required to search. (choose the semester then select the subject (CSC, COS, ITC), 'career' should be 'graduate')

10. Are graduate assistantships available?

Yes. Graduate Assistantships (GAs) include:

  • Teaching Assistantships (TA): Instructional support, grading, labs, mentoring
  • Research Assistantships (RA): Faculty-led research, publications, thesis/dissertation work

Assistantships are not guaranteed. After a student receives notice of acceptance to a graduate program, they may apply for a TA position using this online .

Students seeking Graduate Research Assistantships should contact faculty directly.

The GA application process is competitive and considers applicant academic performance, technical skills, and relevant experience, along with program needs and available funding.


11. Who should I contact about application materials or fees?

The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) can address questions such as those related to Student Visas, CPT (Curricular Practical Training), OPT (Optional Practical Training), and Immigration Requirements.
