Student Interview Policy
- Students who fail to attend a scheduled on-campus interview will be classified as a no-show. Missing interview appointments denies opportunities to other candidates, wastes employer time, and reflects negatively on Southern Miss students and alumni.
- If a student is unable to attend a scheduled interview, they are required to notify the Career Services office by phone at least two working days in advance. This allows time to offer the interview slot to another candidate.
- Students selected for interviews must schedule or decline the opportunity within 48 hours (two business days). Failure to do so will result in deactivation of their Handshake account.
- If a student misses an on-campus interview for any reason, access to their Handshake account will be immediately suspended. Within 10 working days, the student must submit a formal letter of apology to the employer. The letter, along with a pre-addressed, stamped envelope, must be delivered to the Career Services reception desk in Cook Library, Room 203. Students who fail to submit the required letter will remain blocked in Handshake, and any scheduled interviews will be canceled until they meet with the Director or Assistant Director of Career Services. The letter of apology must be presented at that meeting.
- Two no-shows will result in the loss of on-campus interviewing privileges for one year.
Grow Your Workforce Through Co-Op.
The Cooperative Education Program gives students the opportunity to gain a complete education with periods of work directly related to their major. The Co-Op coordinator assists in connecting students with meaningful jobs that provide practical work experience and financial support throughout their education.
- The Co-Op coordinator determines each student's eligibility to participate
- Each student's performance is periodically reviewed once active in the program
- Students may be placed on probation or removed if they fail to meet minimum requirements
